Meet your next best friend

Welcome to Labs by the Lake. We are a small family breeder in Chesterland, Ohio. We breed traditional lab colors: black, chocolate and yellow (ranging from almost white to fox red). We do not breed silver or dilute and will not work with any breeder who breeds or has ever bred silver or dilute.

It all started with one female when we became empty-nesters, and now we have four females and one male that are our pampered family pets - we don't use kennels. Our Labs love living in the country and particularly enjoy their daily runs through the woods on our 5 acres.

Currently all of our females are retired, so we will not have any more litters until our new female is of breeding age and has passed her certifications.  We do have one stud available and a young male who will be available in the future.

Our breeding dogs have OFA-certified hips (good or excellent only), OFA normal elbows, and OFA cleared eyes. We do not show our dogs - just not how we wish to spend our time with them - but most of the studs we choose are either champions themselves, or have championship lines (both show and field).

We have a good understanding of genetics and do not breed within family genetic lines. Our puppies are checked by our vet and given their first round of vaccines before we let them go at 8 weeks. The pups receive three de-worming treatments while under our care.

Our dogs are sold under limited AKC contract to pre-approved families. Contracts are not signed until the day of transfer. If for any reason prior to transfer of a puppy we feel uncomfortable with a placement, the contract will not be exercised and any deposit will be returned. It is most important to us that our puppies are placed in homes where they will receive the type of care we deem necessary for our dogs.

Puppy price to be determined. Since this is our last litter for awhile, we will not be accepting deposits until the puppies are born and thriving.

Update;
- We lost our matriarch, Giggity, in December of 2019.  She would have been 13 in January.  We lost Maggie tragically in January of 2017 when she bloated following surgery for a torn ccl; she was just 5 years old.  This happened a few weeks after her sister Selma was spayed during a c-section with her third large litter (11-12-10 pups). We kept two of Selma's puppies to continue our line - Butters and Klaus.  We plan to bring at least one more female into our breeding program within the next year or so.

- In Novmber of 2017, Ginger was spayed during a c-section with her second litter of 4 - her uterus was about to rupture but she and the puppies were saved.

So we now have five dogs, 3 of whom are retired (we do not re-home our dogs; they are part of our family until death).  Klaus is available at stud, and Butters is our only breeding female on her last litter; she has had three gorgeous litters.  Klaus and Butters have passed the Labrador genetic screen - clear on everything.  Both have OFA EXCELLENT hips, normal elbows and normal eyes!  Both are non-dilute.
